What is Franchise Business
February 21, 2009
Franchise is a method of marketing and distributing based on a two parties relationship. The business model is a method by which a company uses proven techniques from franchiser to distribute its products or services through retail outlets owned by independent, third party operators or in a designated geographical area. The independent operator does business using the marketing methods, trademarked goods and services and name recognition developed by the franchiser company. In exchange, the independent operator pays an initial fee as franchising fee and percent margins to the owner of the franchise.

The company that grants the independent operator the right to distribute its trademarks, products, or techniques is known as the franchiser. The independent, third party business person distributing the franchiser's products or services through retail or service outlets is called the franchisee.

The popularity of the franchise business model has to do with its proven track record of success and ease in becoming a business owner. Independent, non-franchise businesses have a much higher likelihood of failure within their first year of business as compared to franchise business modal.
